Vito Balorda delivered the talk “Categories of Reductionism in Molecular Biology” at the European Society for the History of Science Athens 2021 Second Early Career Scholars Conference. In his talk, Vito examined three categories of reductionism, i.e., theory reduction, explanatory reduction and constitutive reduction by addressing Max Delbrück’s complementarity approach in molecular biology. Vito argued that one can characterize Delbrück as a theory and explanatory anti-reductionist, and as a constitutive reductionist. The conference themed “Science and its Enemies: Exploring Conflicts and Alliances in the History of Science” was held online, September 20 – 22, 2021.
